Data Storage
For researchers there are a number of options related to data storage:
- UPEI Google Drive
- Generally research data should not be stored in a Google Drive or similar commercial services such as DropBox, given the potential issues with privacy and secure data storage.
- UPEI hosted WorkSpaces (Pydio)
- This is the preferred approach to storing research data at UPEI.
- UPEI hosted Published and Archived Data (data.upei.ca)
- Built on the Islandora digital repository framework, the data.upei.ca service provides researchers with a place to securely publish or archive their research datasets.
- ITSS
- Some research projects have special requirements (such as their own specialized servers) and ITSS's Special Data Storage Requirements or Server Hosting form should be filled out to determine if a special approach is needed.
- Secure Island Data Repository (SIDR)
- SIDR provides secure data storage for sensitive data. There are 3 levels of security in SIDR:
- Secure: Low-risk, active data that is continuously updated
- UltraSecure: Medium-risk data with very limited access
- Vault: High-risk, sensitive data; a place for a master copy of highly sensitive data
- To request access to SIDR contact Kim Mears at kmears@upei.ca or 902-566-0453.
