The Ocean Frontier Institute has a new call for Seed Fund project applications!

The Ocean Frontier Institute Seed Fundsupports ocean-related projects that offer high potential for innovation success but need small amounts of funding to help them move forward — and grow.

This call will accept applications from Dalhousie University, Memorial University of Newfoundland, the University of Prince Edward Island, Université de Québec à Rimouski, Université Laval, the University of New Brunswick, and the University of Victoria. The deadline for applying is June 30, 2023, at 11:59pm (Atlantic Time).
The deadline for receipt of the application by the Office of Research Services is June 27, 2023.

For this 8th round, OFI is partnering with Invest Nova Scotia
Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)Genome Atlantic, and the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation (NBIF).

Applicants from the University of Prince Edward Island are eligible for funding from:

  • Genome Atlantic
    • Projects must align with Genome Atlantic’s focus on enabling socio-economic impact through genomics innovation
    • Funding must be used to support the ‘omics element of a project, which can include everything from the cost of students and Post-Docs to consumables, outsourced contracts (i.e. for DNA sequencing), select elements of travel directly linked to the project, etc.
    • As a general rule, Genome Atlantic strives to achieve at least 1:1 co-funding but are open to discussions as need be
  • Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)
    • Projects funded by NSERC must show evidence of training and partnerships
    • NSERC funds must be held by faculty members
